Amelia Mary Earhart
Amelia Mary Earhart, daughter of German American Samuel "Edwin" Stanton Earhart and Amelia "Amy" Otis Earhart was born July 14, 1897 in Atchison, Kansas. Ms. Earhart was an American aviation pioneer and author and the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. During an attempt to make a circumnavigation flight of the globe in 1937 in Lockheed Model 10 Electra, Earhart disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean near Howland Island. Fascination with her life, career and disappearance continues to this day. On January 5, 1939 at the age of 41, Ms. Earhart was declared dead in absentina.
